Egg donation:

Flow of Events For Ovum Donation: Recipients

Potential recipient(s) are provided with a two hour meeting and consultation with the director in order to review potential ovum donors. this intake appointment has no fee. After the meeting if the recipients desire to participate in the Donor Mailing Service they will notify FFC staff and will pay the sum of $50, which will be collected (in cash or check) at the appointment. This mailing service shall include current and future potential donor applications mailed to recipients. The Recipients are welcome to make notes aboout these applicants and request photocopies of photos and profiles of up to nine(9) different potential donors at this meeting. The profiles will be mailed to recipients after the meeting. Recipients are permitted to call monthly and request copies of new profiles. Recipients will treat profiles respectfully and not share them with others and will return to FFC any profiles that are no longer needed. There will be no charge for follow-up visits. Please schedule with staff.

Please be aware that only Intended Parent(s) with contracts can match with Donors. Actual matches occur according to the date of the contract, i.e. Intended Parent(s) with older contract dates will always have first choice.

Contracts signed between Recipient(s) and FFC. (Center Fee and Donor Expense Fund Fee are due upon the signing of the contract in two separate checks.) There will be no action taken by FFC staff to facilitate the matching of a donor (ie, meetings, phone conversations, psychological screenings, reserving of the donor, etc.) before the contract and fees are in. Once the contract is signed and appropriate fees are paid to FFC, Recipient(s) are now considered Intended Parent(s).

Intended Parent(s) can be referred to an IVF program if requested.

Obtain Donor Insurance from Donor Expense Fund ($350) or prevailing rates.

Intended Parent(s) review potential donors. Intended Parent(s) can only select one donor at a time for medical and psychological evaluation. Intended Parent(s) can only hold a donor for five business days after MMPI test results are available. Donors are not employees of FFC. Ovum donors may change their mind once a match process has begun or after meeting the physician, and obtaining more information from the medical program. At different points family or friends may dissuade a donor from continuing with the process.

A semi-anonymous meeting can be arranged if desired. If Intended Parent(s) prefer a letter or phone call, FFC will coordinate either.

Detailed Egg Donation Timeline

Intended parents consult with a physician to determine if this is the right treatment option. You will probably undergo a thorough physical exam and you and your partner will have all required bloodwork done. Once you have this out of the way, it is time to choose a donor.

We will meet with you to determine what you want in a donor. You can review our donor list in depth. Each donor has a 20-page background and photo packet.

Once you have chosen a donor that interests you, we will set up a time for you to come sign a contract and pay agency fees.

Your chosen donor will undergo psychological screening with a professional. Once those results are in, she will be scheduled with your medical practitioner for physical screenings. These will include genetic testing, blood tests, and may include a clomaphine citrate challenge test to check her ovarian reserve.

Once your donor has cleared all the medical tests, your doctor will set a date to begin matching your cycles up to one another. Your donor will take drugs to increase the number of eggs she can produce. You are being prepared to receive embryos.

After about two weeks, your donor will have the eggs retrieved under sedation. These eggs will be introduced to your partner's sperm. Resulting embryos will develop in a laboratory for the next three to five days. At this point, your doctor will meet with you to decide how many embryos to transfer to your uterus and the embryos are transferred. Extra embyros can be frozen for later use.

In about nine days, you can have a blood test performed and find out if you are pregnant.
